Las Vegas Raiders News & Updates

The Las Vegas Raiders have chosen Aidan O'Connell to be their starting quarterback for the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

He will take over from Gardner Minshew, who was benched twice in the late stages of his five starts. The Raiders currently hold a 2-3 record as they approach the match.

Raiders coach Antonio Pierce expressed his decision by stating that moving forward with Aidan seems to be the best choice at this time.

Although Minshew earned the role initially due to his ability to start games strongly, he has thrown five interceptions, one of which was a costly 100-yard pick-six in the game against Denver on Sunday.

On the other hand, O'Connell has shown promise with a completion rate of 59.4% this season, accumulating 176 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Pierce noted that O'Connell has become much more expressive this season, even while serving as the backup to Minshew.

Pierce went on to praise O'Connell, emphasizing that the young player no longer seems like a rookie. He highlighted O'Connell’s strong presence and positive attitude, mentioning that he consistently delivers his best performance each day with a smile on his face.
