Although quarterback Caleb Williams did not make an impressive debut, the defense of the Chicago Bears stepped in, guiding the team to a 24-17 win against the Tennessee Titans.
Despite the initial struggles, the Bears managed to overcome a 17-0 deficit, thanks to exceptional defensive efforts. Tyrique Stevenson scored a touchdown on an interception return, and the defense secured three turnovers.
Williams, the top draft pick, showed difficulties but became the first quarterback selected first overall since 2002 to win his first game.
The Titans performed well offensively in the first half but struggled after the break. Coach Brian Callahan expressed disappointment with their defensive lapses, which led to turnovers and ultimately the loss.
Chicago's offense had limited success, with another touchdown scored on special teams. Despite the low offensive yardage, the Bears' defense and determination were crucial in securing the win.
Remarkably, the Bears became only the third team since the Super Bowl era to win after scoring no touchdowns and trailing by 17 or more points.
Titans' quarterback Will Levis had a so-so performance, and top running back Tony Pollard scored a touchdown. For the Bears, key contributions came from Tyrique Stevenson and Jonathan Owens, with Owens' touchdown exciting the crowd and his wife, Simone Biles.
Looking forward, the Titans will host the New York Jets next, while the Bears are set to travel to Houston to play the Texans on Sunday night.
