Bengals Defense Confronts Critical Test Amid Frustrating 1-4 Season Start

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton voiced his dissatisfaction with the performance of the team's defense, declaring that they've been underperforming.

The defense has encountered numerous challenges and has been positioned near the lower end of the league standings over the course of five games. Hilton called for a meeting exclusively for players, focusing on the necessity for progress.

Despite fan frustrations, Hilton admits that the offense also plays a part but stresses that the defense must contribute effectively.

According to ESPN Research, Cincinnati ranks 31st in Defensive Success Rate, 30th in points allowed per drive, and 31st in third-down defense.

Hilton revealed that there hadn't been a defensive players' meeting since the last season when Cincinnati was in a comparable predicament.

Quarterback Joe Burrow acknowledged that the Bengals can't currently be seen as contenders in the AFC and suggested they should concentrate on each game week-by-week.

Coach Zac Taylor highlighted the need for the entire team to improve, expressing confidence in the defense's abilities.

Linebacker Germaine Pratt is hopeful that a healthier defensive line will bolster the defense. Sheldon Rankins, who missed three games due to injury, participated in training for the first time since week two.

Pratt demanded immediate enhancements, irrespective of personnel issues, to create more opportunities for Burrow and boost the team's chances of winning.
