Denver Broncos News & Updates

During Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II exited after playing just one defensive snap because of a concussion.

The injury happened on the Chargers' first play on offense. Surtain's right arm got caught under receiver Ladd McConkey as they hit the ground, causing McConkey to roll over and Surtain's helmet to hit the ground forcefully.

Right away, Surtain placed his hands on his helmet and shook his head, leading the medical team to evaluate him on the field and continue their examination in the medical tent on the sideline. By the end of the first quarter, he was declared out for the rest of the game.

Not having Surtain, who has been selected for the Pro Bowl twice, is a major blow for the Broncos. Last week, he was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after achieving two interceptions, one of which he returned for a 100-yard touchdown.

By the conclusion of the first quarter, the Chargers had taken a 10-0 lead over the Broncos.
