Denver Broncos News & Updates

Facing limitations from their salary cap, the Denver Broncos focused their free agency strategy on securing an outside linebacker.

The team extended Jonathon Cooper's contract for four years, a deal reportedly valued at $60 million with $33 million guaranteed. Known for his relentless effort, Cooper has achieved 5.5 sacks this season, ranking just behind Nik Bonitto's six.

The Broncos are currently tied for second place in the league with a total of 31 sacks, and they have 12 players who have registered at least half a sack over the course of their first nine games.

A seventh-round pick in the 2021 draft, Cooper was on track to become an unrestricted free agent alongside Baron Browning. Instead, the Broncos decided to trade Browning to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.

Last season, Cooper led the Broncos in sacks with 8.5. He has a congenital heart condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which required several ablations before he joined the team.
