In a rematch from the playoffs, Baker Mayfield guided the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 20-16 triumph over the Detroit Lions. During the third quarter, Mayfield secured the lead for Tampa Bay with an 11-yard touchdown on a designed run. Earlier in the game, he connected on a 41-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin.

The Lions squandered several chances to score touchdowns, with Jared Goff, their quarterback, throwing two interceptions. Detroit’s coach, Dan Campbell, admitted to a crucial error that contributed to their defeat.

Aiden Hutchinson recorded five sacks for the Lions, but this was insufficient to counter Tampa Bay’s effective passing game and timely runs. Despite the loss, the Lions showed enhanced effort and intensity.

This win was pivotal for the Buccaneers as they avenged their past playoff loss to the Lions. Coach Todd Bowles remained optimistic about the possibility of facing Detroit again in the postseason.

Injuries had an impact on the game, with three Tampa Bay starters inactive and Vita Vea exiting with a knee injury. The Lions also suffered a setback when linebacker Alex Anzalone left with a concussion.

The Buccaneers are set to host Denver in their upcoming game, while the Lions will head to Arizona.
