The Titans and Chiefs are discussing a potential trade involving DeAndre Hopkins, a wide receiver, which would result in him moving to Kansas City. In return, the Titans would obtain a conditional fourth-round draft choice.
With Rashee Rice sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, the Chiefs are actively seeking a wide receiver. Their options have further diminished after losing Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a shoulder injury during the preseason and JuJu Smith-Schuster suffering a hamstring injury last week.
Hopkins, who has been in the league for 12 years, is nearing the end of his contract with the Titans. This season, he has accumulated 15 catches totaling 173 yards and scored once in six appearances.
By bringing Hopkins on board, Patrick Mahomes gains an additional receiving option. Despite previous trades, involving Davante Adams and Amari Cooper, Mahomes recently conveyed his trust in the remaining receivers on the Chiefs’ roster.
The Chiefs currently have healthy wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson, who collectively have made 22 receptions through the seventh week of the season.
In recent years, enhancing their wide receiver lineup before the trade deadline has been advantageous for the Chiefs. In 2022, they acquired Kadarius Toney, who contributed both a touchdown and a crucial setup in Super Bowl LVII. In 2023, they brought in Mecole Hardman, who secured the decisive touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII.
