The New York Yankees experienced a disappointing 3-1 defeat against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Even though Gerrit Cole delivered an impressive performance for the Yankees by pitching six innings without allowing any runs and striking out 10 batters, the Astros' pitching staff was too challenging to overcome.
The Astros gained the lead in the third inning thanks to a single from Jose Altuve. They extended their lead with another run in the fifth inning through a sacrifice fly by Alex Bregman. The Yankees managed to score a run in the sixth inning with a solo home run by Aaron Judge, but this effort fell short of securing a win.
Astros' starting pitcher, Lance McCullers Jr., pitched for five innings, giving up one run on three hits. This victory improved the Astros' record to 23-16, while the Yankees' record shifted to 21-18.
