Kyle Shanahan shared that Christian McCaffrey would make his return on Sunday, assuming no unexpected issues occur during the 49ers' journey to Tampa.
On Saturday, McCaffrey was taken off injured reserve and rejoined the 53-man roster after missing eight games due to Achilles tendinitis.
McCaffrey expressed gratitude for being back on the field, noting that his time away made him appreciate playing even more.
To make room for McCaffrey's comeback, Patrick Taylor Jr. was released on Friday night. The 49ers' running back lineup now consists of McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, Isaac Guerendo, and Kyle Juszczyk.
For his return, McCaffrey underwent significant rehabilitation, including a visit to Germany to consult with a specialist.
McCaffrey praised the support provided by the team's leadership and medical staff, mentioning John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan, Jed York, and the training team.
This week, Jon Feliciano from the offensive line and Yetur Gross-Matos from the defensive line started their practice windows, although their activations have been deferred until the following week.
