In Foxborough, Massachusetts, C.J. Stroud's impressive performance with three touchdown passes led the Houston Texans to a 41-21 win over the New England Patriots, in what was rookie quarterback Drake Maye's first start.
Joe Mixon had an eventful game, rushing for 102 yards and catching a touchdown pass from Stroud. Stefon Diggs contributed with six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, and Tank Dell added seven catches for 57 yards and one touchdown. Dameon Pierce's fourth-quarter 54-yard touchdown run capped off his 76-yard effort on eight carries. Will Anderson Jr. had an impressive defensive outing, sacking Maye three times, helping Houston secure their third win in a row.
Drake Maye, who was the third overall draft choice, had a promising game completing 20 of his 33 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. However, he also threw two interceptions, was sacked four times, and lost a fumble. His key receivers were Kayshaun Boutte, Hunter Henry, and DeMario Douglas.
The game saw both teams missing important offensive players. For Houston, Nico Collins was on injured reserve, while New England missed running back Rhamondre Stevenson.
New England, despite reaching a season-high in points, also had their highest points allowed defensively, marked by nine penalties totaling 50 yards.
Bryce Baringer extended his record with a 54-yard punt, continuing his streak of games with a punt of at least 50 yards to 23. During the game, Azeez Al-Shaair suffered a knee injury for Houston, and New England's Vederian Lowe injured his ankle.
Looking ahead, Houston is scheduled to play against Green Bay next Sunday, while New England will be traveling to London to face Jacksonville.
