C.J. Stroud, the quarterback, had a challenging game against the New York Jets where he was sacked eight times, the most in his career, and completed only slightly more than one-third of his passes. He expressed feeling embarrassed about the 21-13 loss and admitted to struggling with decision-making and performance.
Adding to Stroud's troubles, he was hit 11 times while playing quarterback and faced pressure on nearly half of his throws. His time needed to make a pass was at a career-high of 3.63 seconds, with defensive pressure arriving in about 2.87 seconds. Although he knew he needed to release the ball faster, he acknowledged making errors that contributed to his difficulties.
The issue of pass protection for the Texans persisted despite the focus from coach DeMeco Ryans on improving this area. Right tackle Tytus Howard admitted that adjustments were necessary, stating that the inability to protect Stroud hindered the team's overall effectiveness.
On the other hand, the Texans excelled in run blocking during the game. Joe Mixon achieved 106 rushing yards, and the team surpassed 180 rushing yards for the third time in the season. Nonetheless, their success in the running game was overshadowed by their struggles with pass protection.
The Texans are aiming to resolve their difficulties with pass protection in anticipation of their home game against the Detroit Lions next week on "Sunday Night Football."
