Colts QB Richardson Unlikely to Play Against Jaguars Due to Injury Concerns

Indianapolis Colts News & Updates

Anthony Richardson, the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, is unlikely to play in Sunday's matchup due to an oblique injury he picked up during last week's victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This week, Richardson has been on a limited practice schedule, which makes veteran backup Joe Flacco the probable starter in his absence. Flacco has been getting ready intensely over the past few days, whereas Richardson has primarily watched from the sidelines.

The Colts are grappling with injuries beyond Richardson's situation. Center Ryan Kelly is doubtful with a neck issue, and star running back Jonathan Taylor has been declared out because of an ankle sprain. Additionally, defensive end Tyquan Lewis was moved to injured reserve on Tuesday following an elbow injury, and cornerback Kenny Moore II will miss his second game in a row due to a hip problem.

Richardson's recent injury has raised worries about his ability to stay healthy. Since being selected as the No. 4 draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, he has missed 13 out of 21 possible games. Though injuries have been a concern, he has exhibited significant potential this season, ranking third in yardage per attempt and leading in air yards per attempt. However, turnovers have been a challenge for him, as he's thrown six interceptions.
