Will Fries, the right guard for the Indianapolis Colts, experienced a serious injury to his right tibia during the team's defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shane Steichen, the Colts' coach, mentioned that Fries is scheduled for surgery on Sunday night in Jacksonville.
The injury occurred in the third quarter as Fries was blocking for running back Trey Sermon. His leg twisted awkwardly between two defenders from the Jaguars. Medical personnel attended to him immediately on the field, securing his leg in an air cast before he was taken off on a cart.
Coach Steichen extended his thoughts to Fries and his family, with ESPN's Adam Schefter confirming the fracture.
This injury compounds the Colts' current injury challenges, which include quarterback Anthony Richardson's oblique issue and running back Jonathan Taylor's ankle sprain.
Even with a late comeback attempt, the Colts have now lost ten consecutive road games to the Jaguars, a streak that encompasses three head coaches, eight starting quarterbacks, and has stretched across two continents.
The defeat was finalized by a game-deciding field goal with just 17 seconds left on the clock.
Steichen emphasized the nature of the NFL, noting that while the team puts up a strong fight, they must learn to secure victories in critical moments. The day proved to be challenging for them.
