Cleveland Browns News & Updates

The Browns and the city of Cleveland find themselves in a legal conflict regarding the team's proposed relocation to a new stadium in Brook Park.

The team has initiated legal action to seek clarification on the "Modell Law," which forbids teams using publicly-funded venues from relocating without prior consent or notification. The city has indicated it might rely on this law to keep the Browns in Cleveland.

Since the 1940s, the Browns have called Cleveland home, and they have been using their current leased stadium since 1999. Their ambition is to construct a domed stadium in Brook Park, located roughly 15 miles south of Cleveland.

The "Modell Law" was enacted in 1996 to deter teams from leaving Ohio. It has been successfully employed in the past to prevent the Columbus Crew soccer team from transferring to Texas.

The Browns assert that a heated legal confrontation is not their intention, yet they are committed to advancing their plans for the stadium in Brook Park. Meanwhile, the city expresses both disappointment and frustration over the team's resolution to relocate.
