When the Dallas Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 6, they might be missing their two leading defensive linemen, Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence.
An MRI revealed that Parsons sustained a high left ankle sprain during the fourth quarter of the Cowboys' victory over the New York Giants. Meanwhile, Lawrence suffered a right midfoot sprain that will keep him out for several weeks.
This development poses a major challenge for a defense that has recently struggled against the run but had limited the Giants to only 26 yards on 24 carries.
Parsons got injured while attempting to rush the passer from the middle of the Giants' offensive line and was taken off the field for X-rays. Lawrence injured himself while chasing Daniel Jones and left the field limping in the third quarter.
With Parsons and Lawrence out, rookie Marshawn Kneeland and Chauncey Golston stepped in to play defensive end. Additionally, veteran Carl Lawson has been promoted from the practice squad over the past two weeks, and Tyrus Wheat is on the 53-man roster but has yet to be activated.
The Cowboys are facing a tough schedule ahead, with games against the Steelers, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers. Their bye week is scheduled between the Lions and 49ers matchups.
