Dallas Cowboys News & Updates

At the beginning of the season, the Dallas Cowboys didn't foresee finding themselves in their current situation after seven games.

After Sunday's 30-24 loss against the San Francisco 49ers, the Cowboys are sitting at a 3-4 record, hovering near the bottom of the NFC standings. There's a sense of disappointment as coach Mike McCarthy recognizes the need for improvement despite a week of preparation.

The last time the Cowboys had a 3-4 record with Dak Prescott healthy was in 2018. In 2020, they struggled to a 2-5 record before Prescott's season-ending ankle injury. However, in 2018, they turned things around with a midseason trade for Amari Cooper, ending with a 10-6 record and an NFC playoff victory.

Just five players from that 2018 squad are still active: Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Zack Martin, Jourdan Lewis, and C.J. Goodwin.

The frustration is mounting as this marks the fourth consecutive loss to the 49ers. Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs confronted a reporter regarding a critical tweet after the game. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb expressed his dissatisfaction, describing the situation as "sickening."

Prescott delivered 243 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but his performance was overshadowed by four straight incomplete passes towards the end of the game. Despite some progress, Prescott admitted his frustrations and the team's need to regroup.

With their next four opponents having a combined record of 22-9, the Cowboys face a tough schedule ahead. Nonetheless, the emphasis remains on staying focused in the present, as cornerback Jourdan Lewis highlighted.
