Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has avoided a potentially season-ending knee injury.
An MRI indicated that he has a torn meniscus, which will require arthroscopic surgery. If the surgery and rehabilitation process proceed smoothly, he might be able to make a comeback by mid-November.
Kneeland's absence adds to the challenges faced by the Cowboys' defensive line. Micah Parsons is expected to be out for another week due to an ankle sprain, and DeMarcus Lawrence remains on injured reserve.
Kneeland sustained the injury while making a tackle on Justin Fields during their victory over Pittsburgh. Chauncey Golston and Tyrus Wheat stepped in, registering a half sack and three quarterback hurries between them.
Coach Mike McCarthy has suggested utilizing linebackers to support the defensive end position. Carl Lawson from the practice squad may need to be brought onto the roster.
The Cowboys' defensive end unit has been hit by a series of injuries, including Sam Williams' ACL tear, which has sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
