Dallas Cowboys News & Updates

The Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott is dealing with a partial avulsion in his right hamstring, according to a source. Should Prescott be placed on injured reserve, he would be sidelined for at least four games, which includes the matchup on December 9th against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The injury was sustained during Prescott's five-yard scramble in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, which ended in a loss for the Cowboys. Although the seriousness was initially unclear, an MRI later indicated the extent of the injury, necessitating Prescott's absence for several weeks.

In a related instance, Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith experienced a complete hamstring avulsion in 2022, requiring surgical intervention and keeping him off the field for the first 13 games of that season.

With Prescott out, Cooper Rush will take over as the starting quarterback. Rush has proven effective as Prescott's replacement with a record of 5-1, having achieved 9 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and accumulating 1,786 passing yards over 30 appearances.

Meanwhile, Trey Lance will step in as the backup quarterback. Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has commended Rush for his composure and intelligence, highlighting his capacity to maintain the team's offensive game plan.
