Dallas Cowboys News & Updates

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to remove running back Ezekiel Elliott from the lineup for their Sunday matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. This decision was made for disciplinary reasons.

Having joined the Cowboys on a one-year contract in April, Elliott has experienced a challenging season, accumulating 149 yards from 48 carries, along with two touchdowns.

At the start of the season, the Cowboys adopted a strategy involving multiple running backs. However, their performance has been disappointing, averaging just 74.1 yards per game, the lowest in the league.

With Elliott unavailable, Rico Dowdle and Dalvin Cook will take the lead as the main running backs for the Cowboys.

In their previous loss against the San Francisco 49ers, Elliott achieved his 70th rushing touchdown with the Cowboys, placing him two behind Tony Dorsett, a Hall of Famer.

This game marks the first instance in Elliott’s career where he will miss a game as a healthy scratch while the team's playoff prospects remain uncertain.

Dalvin Cook, known for achieving four seasons with over 1,000 yards, has been promoted from the practice squad to participate in the game.

Going into Sunday's matchup, the Cowboys have maintained an average of 74.1 rushing yards per game, ranking last in the NFL. Additionally, they are enduring a run of 21 consecutive games without a 100-yard rushing performance, which is the longest such run in their history.
