The Dallas Cowboys' quarterback, Dak Prescott, might face the end of his season due to a recommendation from team doctors suggesting surgery for a partially torn hamstring.
Prescott is currently looking for an additional opinion from a specialist in New York. However, the surgery is set for Wednesday if the specialist confirms the initial assessment.
The team believes that undergoing surgery promptly would help prevent possible issues in the future. Prescott, however, is reluctant due to previous surgeries on his ankle, thumb, and shoulder in recent years.
This Sunday, Cooper Rush is slated to take the starting role for the Cowboys as they face the Philadelphia Eagles, a crucial game that could leave them trailing by four games in the NFC East with a loss.
There are plans for Prescott to be moved to injured reserve next week, targeting a return around December 15th, depending on when the roster change is made.
With Rush continuing as the lead quarterback, Trey Lance is expected to serve as his backup, and the Cowboys might look into adding another quarterback to either their active roster or practice squad.
The team does not think it necessary to alter their offensive strategies with Rush at the helm, though he has not yet achieved scoring over 25 points while filling in for Prescott previously.
Should the surgery go ahead, this situation could mark Prescott's second occasion of concluding a season on injured reserve, the first being after an ankle injury in 2020.
Further roster adjustments include cornerback Josh Butler and wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper being advanced from the practice squad.
