David Montgomery, running back for the Detroit Lions, has committed to a two-year contract extension valued at $18.25 million.
Included in the agreement is $10.5 million guaranteed, positioning Montgomery as the seventh highest-paid running back in the NFL in terms of annual salary, which stands at $9.125 million.
With two years left on his current contract, the Lions decided to retain Montgomery's talents alongside Jahmyr Gibbs, a running back in his second year.
Currently, Montgomery is the second-leading rusher for Detroit this season, amassing 271 yards and scoring four touchdowns, while Gibbs has accumulated 285 yards and three touchdowns.
Gibbs has voiced his belief that they form the top running back duo in the NFL, emphasizing their versatility and performance.
Montgomery has managed to score a rushing touchdown in seven consecutive games, matching the franchise record set by Billy Sims.
Since arriving at the Lions, Montgomery has scored a total of 17 rushing touchdowns, making him the fourth most prolific in the league during that span.
