Indianapolis Colts News & Updates

Jonathan Taylor, the standout running back for the Colts, had an impressive performance against the Packers by averaging over 8.6 yards per carry. Nonetheless, he was absent from the game's final 15 minutes.

Taylor supported coach Shane Steichen's decision, emphasizing the importance of other running backs. He also acknowledged his own need for improvement in the passing game.

During the fourth quarter, backup running backs Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson were on the field while Taylor, despite being the team's top offensive player, remained on the sideline.

Steichen explained that the strategy shifted to a heavier focus on passing due to the Packers' lead. This tactical shift included a poorly executed sprint-option play involving Anthony Richardson and Sermon, which led to a significant 4-yard loss and a missed field goal.

Taylor's struggles in the passing game, such as a dropped pass, might have played a role in Steichen's decision-making. Though he had an 18-yard reception, indicating room for growth.

Steichen reiterated the emphasis on passing in the fourth quarter, while Taylor described his progress in the passing game as ongoing.

In the end, Taylor achieved 103 rushing yards and two receptions for 32 yards. Despite being the NFL's third-highest-paid running back, he expressed faith in Steichen's coaching abilities.
