During a recent practice, Lamar Jackson, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, mentioned his belief that running back Derrick Henry has a solid opportunity to surpass the NFL's single-season rushing record.
In his inaugural season with the Ravens, Henry has been achieving an impressive average of 124.7 rushing yards per game, projecting him towards a potential total of 2,120 yards. This would surpass the record set by Eric Dickerson, who achieved 2,105 yards in 1984.
While Henry acknowledges Dickerson's remarkable record, he remains concentrated on his team's objectives and enhancing his performance.
Even when confronted with formidable run defenses in the latter part of the season, Henry's impressive performance has shown his capability to tackle challenges. He has become the second-highest rusher over 30 years old in NFL history.
Although some teams might have underestimated Henry during free agency due to his age, he keeps a positive attitude and emphasizes his dedication to the Ravens.
Henry nearly broke Dickerson's record in the past with a career high of 2,027 rushing yards. His current pace indicates he might be the first player to achieve two seasons with 2,000 rushing yards.
In a lighter note, Anthony Edwards, a star in the NBA, jokingly suggested he could tackle Henry despite their difference in size. Henry found this claim amusing and brushed it off with humor.
