The NFL has penalized Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams with a two-game suspension without pay due to a breach of their performance-enhancing substance rules.
Williams is set to rejoin the team on November 4 following the Lions' Week 9 match against Green Bay. He has decided not to contest the league's decision.
Williams expressed his surprise at the penalty, noting that he does not consume supplements or vitamins and acknowledged his responsibility for what he ingests.
In the last two days, Williams has been present at Lions practices. Previously, in 2023, he was sidelined for four games for betting on non-NFL events and was absent for the first 11 games of his rookie year due to an injury.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell maintains confidence in Williams and believes that this experience will be a learning opportunity for him. Meanwhile, the team will depend on other wide receivers like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Allen Robinson, Kalif Raymond, Tim Patrick, and Sam LaPorta during Williams' suspension.
St. Brown remarked that the team will feel the loss of Williams' speed and dynamic play on game days, calling the situation "unfortunate." He also mentioned that the receiving corps has been supportive in maintaining Williams' morale.
Williams conveyed his disappointment regarding the suspension but acknowledged that he has "no choice but to take it on the chin" and is eager to "get back with [his] brothers ASAP."
