The Detroit Lions have extended the contract of a crucial defensive player, Alim McNeill, for four more years with a deal valued at $97 million.
McNeill is the third player from the Lions' 2021 draft picks to receive an extension, alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell. Additionally, running back David Montgomery has been granted a two-year extension.
Following a strong start to the season, the Lions have been rewarding their players. This success includes a recent 47-9 triumph over the Dallas Cowboys.
As a defensive tackle, McNeill has started in all five games this season, achieving eight tackles and 2.5 sacks. The Lions are counting on him to help compensate for Aidan Hutchinson's absence due to injury.
Head coach Dan Campbell commended McNeillâs recent performances and anticipates that he will continue to play a significant role in the pass rush.
