Detroit Lions News & Updates

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office is currently considering a request for an arrest warrant for Jameson Williams, a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, due to a charge related to carrying a concealed weapon.

This request originates from an incident on October 8th, where two firearms were discovered in a vehicle that Williams was a passenger in. One of the firearms was registered to his brother who held a concealed pistol license, while the other was registered to Williams, who did not possess such a license.

During the traffic stop, Williams was initially placed in handcuffs but was subsequently released after a sergeant consulted with senior officers. No official police report was created concerning the stop.

The warrant request followed an internal affairs review that commenced after questions were raised by WXYZ-TV.

According to Williams' attorney, Todd Flood, Williams cooperated fully with the officers and both firearms were lawfully registered. They intend to continue collaborating with law enforcement.

The commander of the Detroit Police believes there was sufficient cause for Williams' arrest, but he was released by a supervising officer following conversations with higher authorities.

The Chief of Detroit Police has called for a thorough investigation after becoming aware of the second firearm in the vehicle.

The Detroit Lions have acknowledged their awareness of the situation and have chosen not to make any more comments as they wish to respect the legal proceedings.

Two weeks post the traffic stop, Williams received a two-game suspension for breaching the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Additionally, he faced a four-game suspension last season for breaking the league's gambling rules.

This season, Williams ranks second on the Lions with 361 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.
