The Miami Dolphins started their season with a fourth straight win, overcoming the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-17 on a day filled with chaos and unexpected events. Jason Sanders secured the victory with a decisive 52-yard field goal as time expired, despite a strange pre-game incident involving handcuffs.
Tua Tagovailoa, inspired by a powerful halftime speech, led a comeback with 336 passing yards and a touchdown. Tyreek Hill ignited the Dolphins with an 80-yard touchdown catch and celebrated by mimicking handcuffs, a nod to his earlier detainment.
Hill wrapped up the game with 130 receiving yards on seven catches, while Devon Achane added 75 yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins' defense shone, recording consecutive sacks on Trevor Lawrence that set up the winning drive.
Trevor Lawrence, recently having signed a large contract extension, completed 21 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. Tank Bigsby rushed for 73 yards and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. caught a 14-yard touchdown pass.
Jevon Holland fumbled near the end zone, but the Dolphins managed to score thanks to Hill's touchdown. Despite early difficulties on offense, Tagovailoa’s halftime speech and Hill's performance ignited the team's victory.
Jaylen Waddle earned 109 receiving yards, including a notable 63-yard catch. Next, the Dolphins will face Buffalo on Thursday night, while the Jaguars will play against Cleveland next Sunday.
