Eagles' Jason Kelce Issues Apology for Incident at College Football Game

Retired Eagles center Jason Kelce offered an apology during ESPN's "Monday Night Football" pregame show for an incident that occurred before the Ohio State-Penn State game. This involved him grabbing the phone of a disruptive fan and throwing it to the ground.

In a statement made before the broadcast of the Buccaneers-Chiefs game, which featured his brother Travis Kelce, a Kansas City tight end, Kelce said, "In a heated moment, I decided to greet hate with hate. I fell short this week."

The incident took place during a Big Ten matchup between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions in State College, Pennsylvania, with Kelce present at the event.

Video footage on social media captured Kelce as he moved through a crowd near Beaver Stadium, where fans sought photos and fist bumps. It was at this point that a fan began to heckle him, shouting an anti-gay slur aimed at his brother.

Reacting to the provocation, Kelce snatched the fan's phone and slammed it to the ground. Subsequently, he turned to confront the individual, who was dressed in Penn State attire, and appeared to use the same anti-gay slur during the altercation. Another fan intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.

During the ESPN broadcast, Kelce addressed the incident: "I think everybody has seen on social media what happened this week. Listen, I'm not happy with anything that took place. I'm not proud of it. In a heated moment I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don't think that's a productive thing, I really don't. I don't think it leads to discourse and it's the right way to go about things. In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn't have."
