The Philadelphia Eagles let go of linebacker Devin White on Tuesday. White had joined the team in March to bolster a struggling linebacker group. He made a strong impression during training camp, but Nakobe Dean eventually took over as the starting linebacker, partnering with Zack Baun.
Devin White missed the Eagles' opening four games of the season because of an ankle injury, some healthy scratches, and personal reasons. The Eagles and White came to a mutual decision for his release just before the trade deadline to prevent going through the waiver process. This agreement could potentially save Philadelphia money.
At 26, White played his initial five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, earning accolades like All-Rookie honors and a Pro Bowl selection in 2021. Last season, he started 13 games where he tallied 83 tackles and 2.5 sacks. However, the 2023 season was marred by injuries for White, resulting in his replacement by K.J. Britt in the starting lineup.
