The Philadelphia Eagles secured their fourth straight victory with a 28-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday night, highlighted by Saquon Barkley's impressive backward hurdle and a game-saving interception from Nakobe Dean.
Barkley stood out with 27 carries amounting to 159 yards and scoring two touchdowns. He also added 40 yards and another touchdown through catches. The Eagles, with a 6-2 record, faced some setbacks with missed chances, failing on fourth downs and 2-point conversion attempts. This resulted in Jake Elliott attempting a 57-yard field goal with 2:16 left, but his miss allowed the Jaguars, now 2-7, to take over at their own 47-yard line.
Following an 18-yard pass interference penalty on Avonte Maddox, the Jaguars advanced to the Eagles' 13-yard line. However, Dean's interception of Trevor Lawrence's end-zone pass halted Jacksonville's second half comeback. With Jalen Hurts and Barkley leading the charge, the Eagles are now strong contenders in the NFC East.
Hurts contributed 230 yards along with two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, while DeVonta Smith made an outstanding one-handed 25-yard touchdown catch that mirrored Garrett Wilson's, thereby boosting the Eagles' lead. Meanwhile, Lawrence completed 16 of 31 passes for 169 yards and two interceptions, and managed two rushing touchdowns for the Jaguars.
Barkley's crucial performance in the victory featured a deft move where he feigned out a defender, spun, and jumped over a Jacksonville cornerback for a 14-yard gain, setting up an Eagles' field goal. He also pulled off an over-the-shoulder 20-yard touchdown catch and a 19-yard touchdown run.
In a disappointing return for Jaguars coach Doug Pederson, he suffered his second loss to the Eagles since his departure from Philadelphia in 2020
