Kirk Cousins guided the Atlanta Falcons to a 26-24 win against the New Orleans Saints despite an inconsistent offensive display, clinching victory on their final drive.
Atlanta found success in scoring through their defense with Troy Andersen's interception return for a touchdown, and special teams with KhaDarel Hodge capitalizing on a fumble. Their offense, however, could not contribute to the scoreboard.
Cousins completed 21 out of 35 passes, accumulating 238 yards, but failed to score any touchdowns and threw an interception. A crucial pass to Darnell Mooney during the final drive resulted in a defensive pass interference penalty, which set up the game-winning field goal by Younghoe Koo.
The Saints outshined the Falcons in several aspects, including first downs, total yards, and time of possession. Additionally, the Falcons were penalized nine times, costing them 76 yards.
Since 2015, Cousins has orchestrated several second-half or overtime game-winning drives, ranking just behind Derek Carr. Running back Bijan Robinson struggled with only 28 rushing yards on seven attempts, whereas Tyler Allgeier managed 60 yards on eight carries.
Coach Raheem Morris pointed out the need for the team to improve despite securing the win.
