The Houston Texans' offseason investments proved successful with a 29-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts. In their debuts for the Texans, Stefon Diggs scored two touchdowns and Joe Mixon rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown.
Coach DeMeco Ryans commended both players, highlighting their ability to perform under any circumstances. C.J. Stroud, who passed for 234 yards, guided Houston to its ninth straight road victory in division play.
Diggs recorded six catches for 33 yards and two touchdowns, including one that clinched the win with 4:42 remaining. Mixon delivered a personal best with 30 carries for 159 yards and scored on a 3-yard run.
For the Colts, Anthony Richardson passed for 212 yards and ran for another 56 yards, but their defense struggled to contain the Texans. This extended Indianapolis's NFL-record opening day winless streak.
Despite a peculiar end to the first half, where the clock was reset due to an officials' review, Houston secured the win. Both teams, however, faced difficulties with the new turf, leading to slips and affecting the game's rhythm.
The Texans are set to host Chicago next Sunday, while the Colts will travel to Green Bay.
