The Dallas Cowboys have begun the process of activating Pro Bowl cornerback DaRon Bland from injured reserve.
Following foot surgery in August, Bland was placed on injured reserve, causing him to miss the first five games of the season. Recently, he has been ramping up his rehabilitation.
Coach Mike McCarthy is still uncertain if Bland will be ready to play in Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
McCarthy expressed optimism about Bland's progress so far, noting they will keep a close watch on his condition.
Bland will join in practice but with a limited number of repetitions due to his ongoing recovery from injury.
The Cowboys have been unable to bring their top trio of cornerbacks, including Trevon Diggs and Jourdan Lewis, onto the field together since the second week of last season. Diggs is recovering from an ACL injury, and Lewis missed the start of the season with a foot injury.
In the event Bland does play against the Lions, his participation may be constrained. Amani Oruwariye has taken on starting duties for the past two games.
Owing to injuries among key pass rushers like Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, having a fully capable secondary would be a crucial boost for the Cowboys.
McCarthy mentioned that preparations have been ongoing for Bland, ensuring he is not starting from scratch, and they plan to assess his progress after the day's practice.
