Jacoby Brissett Propels Patriots to Win in Jerod Mayo's Coaching Debut

Jacoby Brissett started for the Patriots but didn't need to perform at his best thanks to Rhamondre Stevenson, who found success against the weak Cincinnati Bengals defense.

Stevenson achieved 120 rushing yards and scored a touchdown, while Joey Slye added three field goals, securing a 16-10 victory for New England in Jerod Mayo's coaching debut against Cincinnati.

Mayo opted for Brissett over rookie Drake Maye, and Brissett managed to keep the Patriots' offense productive enough to outlast the Bengals, who had a sluggish start.

Mayo commended Brissett's toughness and praised his ability to keep the ball moving.

A former linebacker for the Patriots, Mayo previously worked as an assistant to Bill Belichick, who stepped down after a challenging previous season.

Patriots' owner Robert Kraft celebrated by giving Mayo a game ball, acknowledging the new players and coaches for exceeding expectations.

In the first quarter, Brissett orchestrated a steady drive that ended with a touchdown run by Stevenson.

The Bengals had difficulties in the first half, repeatedly going three-and-out and failing to score after entering the red zone.

Kyle Dugger stripped the ball from Tanner Hudson, and Marcus Jones returned it 17 yards.

Joe Burrow's performance was modest, with 21 completions out of 29 attempts for 164 yards, without scoring any touchdowns.

Despite a recent illness, Ja'Marr Chase played and made six catches for 62 yards.

In the second half, Cincinnati's Charlie Jones fumbled a punt, leading to a Patriots’ field goal, and the Bengals also turned the ball over on a failed fourth-down pass attempt.
