Kirk Cousins Justifies Salary with Record-Breaking Show in Falcons' Overtime Thriller

On Thursday night, Kirk Cousins justified his $180 million contract by setting a new personal record with 509 passing yards and throwing four touchdowns. This performance included a 45-yard pass to KhaDarel Hodge during overtime, leading the Atlanta Falcons to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a score of 36-30.

The fourth quarter was intense, featuring a blocked field goal, a fumble, and an interception. Despite these hurdles, Cousins advanced the Falcons to the 29-yard line of the Buccaneers with just over a minute left in regulation. Although Cousins was penalized for delay of game after spiking the ball, Younghoe Koo successfully kicked a 52-yard field goal to send the game into overtime.

Atlanta won the overtime coin toss and kept possession, ensuring Baker Mayfield of the Buccaneers did not get the ball. Cousins made key connections with Drake London and Hodge, who broke free from a tackle at the 40-yard line and scored the game-winning touchdown.

Cousins equaled his career record with four touchdown passes, and his passing yardage shattered his previous record of 460 yards. He also broke Matt Ryan’s team record for passing yards in a game, achieving one of the most impressive performances in NFL history.

Baker Mayfield contributed to the game with three touchdown passes, two of which went to Mike Evans, while Chase McLaughlin added three field goals for the Buccaneers. Mayfield expressed regret over the outcome, emphasizing his focus on winning and wishing for a stronger offensive finish in the game.

The Falcons had a strong start as well, with Cousins throwing an 18-yard touchdown pass to London and Darnell Mooney securing a 24-yard touchdown reception in the first half.
