Kirk Cousins, brought in by Atlanta for a considerable $180 million, turned his performance around after a rocky start in their season opener. His critical throws, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Drake London, led to a 22-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Cousins orchestrated an impressive last-minute drive, connecting with Darnell Mooney for key gains and finding London for the tying touchdown. A holding penalty against London resulted in an extra point, giving Atlanta the advantage.
Meanwhile, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a late interception, solidifying Atlanta's victory. Saquon Barkley, despite showing promise in his debut, dropped an important pass that allowed the Falcons to make a comeback.
Cousins' display highlighted the potential that Atlanta anticipated when they signed him. He ended the game with 241 yards and two touchdown passes, whereas Hurts recorded 183 yards and one touchdown.
Other highlights included Bijan Robinson rushing for 97 yards for Atlanta, while DeVonta Smith led the Eagles with seven receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Despite a questionable decision by the Eagles in the first quarter, their running game, spearheaded by Barkley, appeared encouraging. Additionally, Nick Foles, the former Super Bowl MVP for the Eagles, received a warm reception during pregame ceremonies.
Looking ahead, Atlanta will face the Kansas City Chiefs at home, while Philadelphia will travel to New Orleans to play the Saints.
