Detroit Lions News & Updates

Za'Darius Smith, who recently joined the Detroit Lions as a defensive end, participated in his first practice on Friday. He was traded from the Cleveland Browns earlier in the week and his participation in Sunday's game in Houston remains uncertain. The Lions are thrilled to have Smith on their team, though they are careful not to put pressure on him to fill the void left by Aidan Hutchinson, who sustained a significant leg injury in Week 6. Smith has expressed his intention to be true to himself and support the younger team members.

This season, Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler, has achieved 23 tackles, 5.0 sacks, and 6.0 tackles for loss. Before he can fully integrate into the team's lineup, Smith mentioned the importance of familiarizing himself with the defensive schemes and strategies. The Lions are experiencing their best start in decades, boasting a record of 7-1, a feat not seen since 1956.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell emphasized the necessity for Smith to take it easy following his recent trade. Additionally, Smith needed to address some issues at his Florida residence, which was impacted by recent hurricanes. Campbell is confident that Smith's extensive experience will be a significant asset to the Lions.
