Jim Trotter, a former journalist with the NFL, reached a settlement in a lawsuit against the organization after alleging institutional discrimination and retaliation following the non-renewal of his contract. As part of this agreement, the NFL agreed to make a donation to Trotter's scholarship foundation, which supports journalism students at historically Black colleges and universities.

In his lawsuit, Trotter claimed that the NFL overlooked issues related to racial justice and equity, especially following racially insensitive remarks made by the owners of the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills, Jerry Jones and Terry Pegula, respectively. He also pointed out the lack of diversity among employees at NFL Media.

The NFL previously refuted Trotter's claims, asserting that his contract was not renewed due to decisions made for business reasons as a response to shifts in the economic and media landscape. Nonetheless, Trotter argued that he experienced racial discrimination and asserted that the NFL maintained a hostile work setting.

Apart from the settlement, Trotter's lawyer commended his client's dedication to supporting Black students in sports journalism and encouraging diversity within the industry.
