The NFL is conducting an investigation into an inappropriate eye black message displayed by George Pickens, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, during their game against the Dallas Cowboys. According to the league's uniform policy, personal messages are not allowed unless they receive prior approval.
The message worn by Pickens, which read "Open F---ing Always," breached these rules. Mike Tomlin, the coach of the Steelers, mentioned that he was unaware of the message and expressed that he had no concerns regarding Pickens' performance.
After the game, Pickens chose not to engage with the media. It is anticipated that a fine will be announced in the NFL's accountability report, which is expected on Saturday.
The NFL has previously fined players for similar infractions. In 2015, Steelers players Cam Heyward, DeAngelo Williams, and William Gay received fines for wearing eye black messages and purple cleats in tribute to family members and to support awareness causes.
