Miami Dolphins News & Updates

Even though the record for preseason concussions has hit a low point, the NFL has assured that it will not influence any decisions regarding Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins quarterback who has experienced several concussions. The league's chief medical officer highlights the importance of patient autonomy and acknowledges the challenges in predicting future concussion risks.

This year has seen a notable decrease in preseason concussions, with a 25% drop compared to 2023, marking the lowest numbers since data collection commenced in 2015. The NFL credits this positive change to newly implemented rules and adjustments in practice sessions, particularly the use of Guardian Caps helmet supplements.

Guardian Caps have shown effectiveness during practice sessions, but further data is necessary to evaluate how well they perform in actual games before any mandatory measures are considered. Although the overall injury rates on kickoffs have declined, concussions occurred more frequently than expected, prompting a reassessment of the newly designed kickoff play.

No concussions have been reported on kickoffs during the first three weeks of the regular season.
