San Francisco 49ers News & Updates

The San Francisco 49ers are grappling with more injury troubles as defensive tackle Javon Hargrave sustained a partially torn triceps during their loss to the Los Angeles Rams. This injury necessitates surgery and is expected to sideline Hargrave for the entire 2024 season.

Quarterback Brock Purdy developed back soreness post-game, yet an MRI revealed no structural damage. His status remains uncertain on a day-to-day basis.

Running back Christian McCaffrey made a trip to Germany to consult a specialist about his ongoing Achilles tendonitis.

Hargrave's spot on the roster is likely to be filled by someone from the practice squad, with Evan Anderson and T.Y. McGill being possible candidates. Kevin Givens or Jordan Elliott might take on a starting role, and Yetur Gross-Matos could move inside during passing downs.

Although Hargrave's injury is severe, there is a remote possibility he could return late in the playoffs if the 49ers advance far.

McCaffrey is anticipated to miss more than two games, with the earliest potential return date being October 10th, though his recovery timeline is still unclear.

On a brighter note, tight end George Kittle and cornerback Charvarius Ward are expected to resume practice this week, providing some positive news amid the injuries.

Despite enjoying a relatively healthy Super Bowl season last year, the 49ers are encountering significant injury challenges this season, with Hargrave's injury being the latest issue.
