Diontae Johnson will not play for the Carolina Panthers in their upcoming game against Denver on Sunday. Although Johnson had expressed his desire to participate in the game, he has been diagnosed with a rib injury.
There has been no confirmation from coach Dave Canales on whether the choice to sit Johnson was made to maintain his trade value.
Johnson, who joined the Panthers during the offseason from Pittsburgh, had been competing despite dealing with an ankle injury. He currently leads the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
The Panthers will also miss the presence of Adam Thielen due to a hamstring injury.
Andy Dalton, the quarterback, is unlikely to be available as a backup to Bryce Young because of a thumb injury he sustained in a car accident. Jack Plummer, an undrafted rookie, is anticipated to take on the backup role.
With both Johnson and Thielen absent, Young will rely primarily on receivers Legette, Mingo, Coker, and Moore.
However, outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, who has been sidelined for the past two games with a shoulder injury, is expected to return to play.
There are no football games tomorrow.
