The intense game between the Cardinals and the Tigers played out in an exciting manner, with the Cardinals triumphing 7-4. The Cardinals' offense was electrifying in the first inning, scoring twice to take an early lead. The Tigers quickly equalized in the second inning.
The score remained tied until the fifth inning when the Cardinals pulled ahead with a two-run surge. Although the Tigers reduced the gap by scoring once in the sixth, the Cardinals responded with two additional runs in the seventh, pushing their lead to 6-3.
The Cardinals' relief pitchers performed impressively, managing to suppress the Tigers' offense in both the eighth and ninth innings. The Tigers, however, rallied in the ninth by scoring one run and loading the bases with two outs. Yet, Ryan Helsley, the Cardinals' closer, struck out the last batter to clinch the win.
Miles Mikolas, the Cardinals' starting pitcher, was exceptional, pitching 6.2 innings and conceding only three runs on seven hits. In contrast, the Tigers' starter, Tarik Skubal, faced challenges, giving up four runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings.
This victory lifted the Cardinals' standings to 18-15, while the Tigers' record dropped to 14-20. Nolan Gorman was pivotal for the Cardinals with three hits and three RBIs, whereas Jonathan Schoop hit a home run for the Tigers.
