After the announcement from Rams coach Sean McVay that wide receiver Cooper Kupp will not be available for trade, teams looking to strengthen their receiver line-up are now directing their attention elsewhere.
Among the names generating the most buzz are Diontae Johnson from the Panthers and Christian Kirk from the Jaguars, as reported by sources within the league. There is a strong possibility that one or both of these players may be traded before the NFL’s deadline on November 5th, a continuation of the trend where wide receivers are in high demand and frequently involved in trades.
Within the past week, notable wide receivers such as Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, and DeAndre Hopkins have been transferred to the Jets, Bills, and Chiefs, respectively. The expectation is that more trades will occur.
The Panthers have received a number of inquiries about Johnson and are apparently looking for a mid-round draft pick in exchange. Despite being part of a struggling offense, Johnson has achieved 30 receptions, accumulated 357 yards, and scored three touchdowns so far this season.
There is a sentiment that a trade for Johnson is bound to happen, as he is both younger and more affordable than other available receivers, which makes him a desirable choice.
The Jaguars are also considering trade proposals for Kirk, whose performance has seen a downturn this season. If Jacksonville were to lose to Green Bay on Sunday, this might push them to consider offers more seriously.
The Jets have expressed that they are willing to consider trading veteran wide receiver Mike Williams if the right offer comes along.
Teams such as the Steelers, Chargers, and others still have needs at the wide receiver position.
McVay has underscored that Kupp is not on the trading block, emphasizing that Kupp is an integral part of the Rams and is expected to stay with the franchise.
