Russell Wilson, confident and determined, got his chance in Pittsburgh. Despite facing early obstacles and doubt from outsiders, Wilson showed his toughness in a 37-15 win against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sunday night.
Wilson led the Steelers to a strong victory, throwing for two touchdowns and adding another with his legs. He quickly shook off any early rust and quieted any remaining doubts. His performance was sparked by a critical 11-yard touchdown pass to George Pickens.
Even though he didn't throw more touchdowns to Pickens, Wilson continued to make an impact, scoring a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter and completing a 4-yard pass to Van Jefferson in the fourth. Pittsburgh managed to score over 30 points for the second week in a row.
Meanwhile, the Jets had difficulty keeping up. Despite acquiring Davante Adams in a trade from Las Vegas, New York's offense struggled, leading to their fourth straight loss. Rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop intercepted two of Rodgers' passes, one of which led to a Steelers touchdown.
In a crucial decision, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin decided to start Wilson instead of Justin Fields, despite Fields' impressive performances. Tomlin's choice to prioritize excellence over mere competence paid off as the Steelers took control in the second half.
The game was affected by injuries on both sides. Jets guard Xavier Newman and Steeler defensive tackle Montravius Adams both left with knee injuries, while Jets guard Alijah Vera-Tucker was injured in the ankle.
The Jets are scheduled to play against the New England Patriots next Sunday, while the Steelers will host the New York Giants on Monday, October 28.
