Seahawks' Defense Hit Hard by Injuries as Safety Rayshawn Jenkins Lands on Injured Reserve

Seattle Seahawks News & Updates

On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks moved starting safety Rayshawn Jenkins to injured reserve because of a hand injury, and he will miss at least the next four games.

Jenkins, who has participated in every snap this season, is now part of an increasing list of sidelined defensive players for the Seahawks. Last week, outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu was also placed on injured reserve, and rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II has been absent for the last three games due to a hamstring issue.

The Seahawks' defensive secondary has been particularly affected by injuries. Earlier this week, nickelback Artie Burns was placed on IR, while the availability of cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Tre Brown, both dealing with ankle injuries, remains uncertain for Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

To improve their depth, the Seahawks have signed cornerback Eric Garror to their practice squad and have elevated Ty Okada from that group.

On the offensive front, right tackle George Fant is making progress in his recovery from a knee injury, though his return this week appears unlikely. Head coach Mike Macdonald has confirmed that the practice window for rookie Abe Lucas, who started the season on the physically unable to perform list, will not be opened yet.
