The Seahawks have made a trade with the Titans, acquiring Ernest Jones IV in exchange for Jerome Baker and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft.
This year, Jones, a 24-year-old inside linebacker, has played for both the Rams and the Titans. He contributed to the Rams' victory in Super Bowl LVI and has made 44 tackles this season for the Titans, who are currently at the bottom of the AFC South standings.
Baker, who will become a free agent after this season, has accumulated 37 tackles and one sack in five games with the Seahawks, who currently lead the NFC West.
The Seahawks aim to retain Jones beyond 2024; however, they usually do not immediately extend the contracts of players acquired through trades. Jones is in the final year of his rookie deal, which has a base salary of $3.116 million.
Jones quickly became a starting player for the Titans and assumed a leadership position, participating in 91.2% of the team's defensive plays. Baker is expected to take over Jones's starting role. Rookie Cedric Gray, a fourth-round draft pick, might also become a potential option for the Titans.
Additionally, the Titans have opened the practice window for right tackles Abe Lucas and George Fant. Lucas has been recovering on the physically unable to perform list, while Fant was on injured reserve. With these absences, combined with Stone Forsythe's hand injury, the Seahawks have been forced to use their fourth option at right tackle.
According to Macdonald, on Monday, Jerrell, Fant, and Forsythe are all candidates to potentially start in the upcoming game against the Bills. Moreover, Lucas will require several weeks of practice before he is ready to play in a game.
