Coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers is considering keeping Justin Fields as the starting quarterback, even when Russell Wilson recovers from his calf injury. However, Tomlin mentioned that no final decision has been made yet.
Tomlin noted that Fields' impressive performance could affect Wilson's return schedule and strategy. Nevertheless, the primary focus still remains on the upcoming games.
Tomlin stressed that for Fields to retain his starting role, he must "play well and win." Despite Wilson's anticipated increase in practice this week, Tomlin is getting Fields ready for his fifth start against the Dallas Cowboys.
Regarding other injuries, Alex Highsmith and James Daniels will be unavailable. The practice participation of Jaylen Warren, MyCole Pruitt, Cordarrelle Patterson, Nick Herbig, Keeanu Benton, and Isaac Seumalo will determine their availability.
Wilson, who has been out of action since his calf injury in September, is expected to ramp up his practice efforts.
Tomlin and Fields have started to build rapport in challenging game situations. Tomlin lauded Fields' composure during the game against the Colts, where Fields showcased his calmness and contributed three touchdowns in the second half.
