Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Keeps Quiet on Permanent Starting QB Decision Despite Justin Fields' Outstanding Performance

Although many anticipated Justin Fields would start against the Indianapolis Colts, Coach Mike Tomlin has not designated him the permanent starter over veteran Russell Wilson, stating it is unnecessary at this moment.

When questioned about what constitutes an "appropriate level of health" for Wilson, who suffered a calf injury in late July, Tomlin remained noncommittal.

Wilson, currently a limited practice participant, will have his status reassessed later in the week. If his practice involvement improves, his availability for games may be considered. If not, Fields will continue as the starting quarterback.

Even though Fields has performed well in his three starts, boasting a touchdown and only one turnover, Tomlin mentioned that this has not swayed his long-term decision regarding the starting quarterback position.

Tomlin also noted that Wilson's experience minimizes concerns about his ability to adapt to a new system after an injury. However, he did not speculate on when Wilson's return might create difficulties.
