Steelers Defeat Giants as Calvin Austin III Shines and Forces Key Late Turnovers

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin saw the potential for a game-changing play in the small-statured wide receiver Calvin Austin III. He shared his thoughts with Austin, who also sensed a similar outcome. Motivated by Tomlin's encouragement, Austin achieved a 73-yard punt return touchdown and followed it up with a 29-yard touchdown catch, leading the Steelers to a 26-18 win over the Giants.

Despite some inconsistencies, Pittsburgh managed to secure their third win in a row. Late-game turnovers caused by T.J. Watt and Beanie Bishop thwarted two of the Giants' drives, ensuring the win. Although they were hindered by 16 penalties and multiple nullified touchdowns, the Steelers' offense accumulated 426 yards. Quarterback Mitch Wilson completed 20 out of 28 passes for 278 yards, and running back Najee Harris rushed for over 100 yards in his third consecutive game, finishing with 114 yards.

The Giants struggled due to 11 penalties and a defense that failed to stop the Steelers' offensive advances. Rookie Tyrone Tracy made a significant impact with 145 rushing yards, while Daniel Jones completed 24 of 38 passes, totaling 264 yards. Unfortunately, New York's performance was marred by errors and missed assignments.

On the injury front, Steelers' Justin Fields became the emergency quarterback after injuring his hamstring during practice.

Looking ahead, the Giants will host Washington, while the Steelers will take a break before their matchup against the Commanders on November 10.
